Welcome
I needed a sympathy card for a gent who has recently been bereaved, and this is the outcome.
I always find myself in a quandary as to what to make - do I make a 'frilly' card for a man who has lost his wife, or a simple one. This time I went for the simple option.
I started with a grey flecked card base, sponging the edges with Cobblestone ink. The blue panel was in my stash of 'bits' that I had experimented with.
This was cut using the largest die from the Spellbinders Marvelous Squares
set, and then de-bossed using the Swiss Dots embossing folder. The edges were lightly sponged with a blue ink.
The same card as the base was used for the sentiment panel - I silver embossed the sentiment from an Our Daily Bread Designs set of stamps. This was cut and embossed, and before the die was removed, I ran a silver pen around it. I then layered that onto a silver scalloped oval. The layered pair were mounted on the blue panel, which I had run a silver ribbon through.
I added a bow, took a second look and decided it was rather spartan, so found this wee stamp in an old set, masked the blue layer and randomly stamped it onto the base in the cobblestone ink.
The final details were the pearls, which were popped onto the the abstract design and also under the sentiment.

ReplyDeleteA delightful card Maxine. Just the right amount of texture and layers.
ReplyDeleteYou know Maxine, I think it is just as difficult to comment on a sympathy card as it is to make them. It's hard to say how gorgeous it is without gushing or seeming too fluffy about it because it is such a sombre time and you know the reason the card exists is because someone's loved one has passed.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, this is such an appropriate and well designed sympathy card. The colours are beautiful and pearls and ribbon are just the right amount of embellishment for it.
This is such a soothing and beautiful card!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! I love all the pearls on this and your embossing is sensational - as always! Lovely card.

Elegantly crafted card, thanks for joining us at the Crafters Cafe this week
ReplyDeleteOh, Maxine, this is a hard card to have to make…such a sad reason. But it's beautiful and will bring comfort to this gentleman because you made it for him and will surely write something that will tell him you care. That's the important thing right now. It's lovely with the double embossing, and I love the pearls…just like his wife might have worn. So glad you joined us this week for the ODBD Shining the Light challenge!
ReplyDeleteSimple and sincere. that is all you need for a sympathy card. Such a pretty shade of blue you have chosen. It all goes together so well. Kate xx
ReplyDeleteMaxine,
ReplyDeleteThis is just so peaceful with that shade of blue. It is also beautiful with the silver and pearls. I hope you have time to enter it with WAW.
