Silver and Blue Birthday

Welcome - is it really a week since I was here??

I hope you were not looking for me - I have been crawling around a garden, pushing the lawnmower and the worst of all, I had a migraine - oh, and hubby wanted my computer to follow the cricket on, as we do not have pay TV.

But, I got some time in the studio yesterday, and got this card made.

I am really disappointed with the camera as it has picked up the the sparkly flower as gray with glints, when IRL it is really a very pretty, clear silver.

The background is stencilled using Broken China Distress ink through a mesh bag - the sort you get your fruit in.  It was a bit fiddly to use as it kept wanting to spring away, but the use of masking tape, holding the mesh onto a glass cutting board sorted that problem.

The top panel was a scrap that I found in my stash of odd and ends - after tearing the bottom edge I inked it with some silver ink - bad move, so I then dipped it into silver embossing powder and heated it and volia - success!

After assembling the card I felt it still lacked something, so sprayed it with a silver shimmering mist - still not happy, I rounded two of the corners.   I then thought of adding some pearls, and was scrabbling around to find them when I came across some clear rhinestones -  I added them top and bottom and was finally happy with the card.

There is a lot of shimmer and shine on this card, and the more I see it the more I like it - I am allowed to say that, aren't I?

  21. Lots of layers and textures on here - lovely! One tip for photographing silver is to use daylight or more than one light source... it really is tricky :S

Thanks for joining us at The Crafting Cafe this month, and good luck!
