Welcome
I used this card to teach the Shattered Glass technique in my class this month.
I started with two chipboard heart shaped die cuts. My original inspiration came from Karen Hasheck and her Tarnished Silver Look Embossing.
I did not have any black embossing powder, so after doing a base coat of copper (rather than silver) embossing, I used clear embossing powder (several coats as I do not have any clear UTEE), and on one of the last coats I added just a sprinkle of blue to imitate verdigris on the copper.
A tip that makes life easier - heat the layers of embossing powder from underneath, even when using versamark, it saves the powder blowing off when you have a thick layer !!
The 'shattered' look was achieved by simply bending the chipboard after it had cooled.
The feature panel was cut using a MB stitched rectangle, the edges sponged with espresso ink, the hearts from a Inspired Stamps set, and the sentiment by Montarga Stamps were embossed with Copper EP, before adding the larger heart.
The feature panel was then mounted over some wall paper, then onto the blue base.
On the second card that I made during the class I angled the panel and partially placed it over the ribbon for a more relaxed look.

This is fabulous Maxine - I love that technique - a great hint about using the heat from below the paper. Thanks so much for sharing! {{{hugs}}}

ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards, Maxine. TFS the instructions. xx
ReplyDeleteThis is very cool. I like your cracked copper heart. I had never heard of this technique until I received a card made with it in the mail. My first thought was the postal office was really mean to my card!
ReplyDeleteMaxine this is fabulous. I made one similar years ago in a class I attended using UTEE and the melting pot, it certainly has an amazing finish in real life...{aNNie}
ReplyDeleteThat's a great design to use for the shattered glass look - I may borrow it if you don't mind some time. Thanks for the tip about heating from underneath - good idea. It did take me back to my early stamping days when I used a toaster because I didn't have a heat gun - had to do it from underneath then LOL.

Gorgeous Maxine. A great technique
ReplyDeleteOh wow Maxine, love your shattered glass effect! The copper with the bits of blue creates a wonderful patina effect and the blue backing really ties it all together. Fantastic! hugs :)
ReplyDeleteGreat technique used on the hearts, Maxine and such a lovely card.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment on my craftchaos blog.
Great technique, lovely card. The tip about heating from the back is a good one. Another tip someone gave me once is to put it in the freezer for a while before you "shatter" it. Looks like your worked wonderfully. Thanks so much for sharing with us over at CRAFT Challenge!
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm amazed that was all done with a piece of cardboard, it looks so much like metal now!
