Welcome
I have recently seen some wonderful cards made using nail polish marbling, so I bought some cheap ones and had a play... after watching some videos here and here. I took the advice offered and ended up working outside whilst I was playing, and I was very glad I did as the fumes are potent!
These are the results, and I discovered that some colours were better than others, and that I suspect was a variation of quality, as they were very cheap!! 3 for $5.
(I also discovered that the polishes will dissolve a polystyrene dish if they hit the bottom!!)
I chose this green one for the feature panel of a card I made yesterday.
I trimmed the marbled paper, and layered it over a bright green backing, then a forest green base, when I realised I had no layer to hide the ends of the ribbon behind - oops.
I few green/gold sequins were added to both the panel,
the sentiment panel, which was mounted on fun foam,
and one end of the layered ribbons.
I was really happy with the end result of this card, which is now in the mail.

Maxine, I love the "arty" look you have created with the nail polishes! I haven't seen this before. The ribbons make a pretty frame.
ReplyDeleteHello Maxine - thank you for sharing this lovely technique and for supplying links to video tutorials. I love the bright and cheerful colours and the effect you have achieved. The finished card is super - so very arty! x Anne
ReplyDeleteA very pretty card Maxine. Your marbling is really good. I've never tried this with nail polish before. Hope tomorrow is a better day for you
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe you did this with nail polish, freaking amazing!! Thanks for the links, I am interested to check out those videos. I love the colour palette, so fresh and summery. I giggled at your story about the ribbon. This is a mistake I constantly make and never seem to learn. I always end up tying little knots in the ends or just fraying the ribbon and letting it hang over. Too funny. Sending hugs :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness... I love the marbled paper! WOW! This is such a fabulous card, Maxine!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you did this outside as suggested as you would have been blown away with fumes. Fabulous result Maxine and I love the green nailpolish. Don't think I will use this technique again very strong...hope you enjoyed making it though..x

ReplyDeleteSummer is good for many crafting techniques — especially smelly ones! (I try to glitter outside... when it's not too windy, haha.) This panel is beautifully arty! Thanks for joining the fun at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the smell is awful with this technique. It took months for the smell to dissipate from my marbled pieces! That being said, this background is GORGEOUS and well worth the effort! Love the card you made!
ReplyDeleteFun technique and one that I haven't seen. Sounds like fun! Thanks so much for your encouraging words, Maxine. I know you've recently been through a lot and I truly appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhh fantastic! Great idea to use polish to make a fab background!
ReplyDeleteThanks for getting arty with Edna and the sisterhood of snarky stampers!
I love the thick marbling effect you get from the nail polish. Isn't that a smelly thing to play with though? And wait..... green nail polish? What will those kids think of next.
ReplyDeleteYour marbling turned out amazing, Maxine. Love the design and mix of colours. xx
