Poppy Sympathy

Welcome

I was asked to make a sympathy card the other day - the local paper had been published for the first time in over six weeks, and my neighbour, after reading the numerous death notices, ordered a sympathy card...

My neighbour mentioned that the person she wanted it for had extensive gardens, so I went with a floral theme, using the poppy image from one of my original Stampin' Up sets, Oh So Lovely.

I stamped the full image on one side of the card, then die cut an aperture using the MFT Peek a boo die.  The two other images were stamped on a scrap piece (or should that be pieces... I have never smudged or messed up so many stamping attempts!).
But I (eventually) did  my first ever successful 'mirror' stamping on this!

Once I had the images presentable, I coloured the ones on the scrap with Prismacolor pencils, brushed on a light sky of Broken China DI,  then coated the flowers with numerous coats of  Wink of Stella before mounting them behind the aperture, lining up the flowers on the left.

A very old Divinity Designs sentiment was used on the outside, and a few white sequins to break the 'severity' of the simple stamping.

And a sentiment from the same set on the inner.

Unfortunately I photographed this late afternoon, and did not realise until I uploaded the photos to the computer that they had a yellowish tinge that I cannot edit out.  The one truly white one was taken under electric light with the appropriate camera settings.

  25. I have never seen anyone make a card like this one you have made Maxine. And I would never have thought of this idea myself but it is absolutely stunning. The clean lines of this card say so much and the placement of those poppies is just perfect - I love how they feature in the 'window'.
A very classy card in my book
