Welcome
Thank you Margaret for speaking up - her blog is a commentary on life in New Zealand, should you be interested .
This card was one I used to teach a couple of techniques on earlier this month - we were still 'social distancing', but it was our first time together in three months, and we really enjoyed ourselves - I was surprised we got anything finished as we laughed so much!
One of the techniques I taught was to create backgrounds with water colour techniques - for this one I used Lyra water colour crayons.
This image, a magazine freebie, was an outline stamp, which was totally coloured with a black marker. It was an old one and I only just completed the colouring.
I learnt this technique on Ishani's blog here, where she shows how to stretch our stamps!
When I went to make the card up, I wanted a bit more 'life' in the background, so I masked the image with the stamp, and sprayed the background with a Lindy's mica spray.
I embossed the sentiment in platinum ep, then mounted the panel on black to give a small border before layering it onto the gold/yellow base.
The finishing touches were black pearls on the flower and pot, and clear drops (Glossy Accents) around the sentiment
The inside was decorated with a trimming from the background panel.

Oh how I love the effect that it did on the Silhouette dear Maxine! It's like I can see a starry night sky! Plus that embossed Happy Birthday is just so classy! Did you write that yourself? Stunning caligraphy!
ReplyDeleteSending you hugs for this new week Maxine!
Your card is beautiful, Maxine. Great background and a lovely silhouette. I love the idea for masking using the stamp and not a paper. Hugs, my dear friend, and thank you so much for joining Craftlandia Challenge. Kisses!!!

ReplyDeleteHow very striking Marine, the silhouette image really pops against the pretty rainbow background.

Beautiful card Maxine. The background is striking against the silhouette image. I never think to colour an image completely in black to turn it into a silhouette image.
ReplyDeleteI just love that background! Thanks for joining our Anything Goes Challenge at Lil Patch of Crafty Friends. I hope join us again real soon!Hugs, JoyJoyfully StampsLil Patch of Crafty Friends, Owner/Coordinator

ReplyDeleteI love cards with silhouettes and this card is no exception! This is fabulous Maxine! Loving the beautiful background, it just makes me happy seeing those beautiful colors. Love that sunflower silhouette too. Glad you were able to get together with the group even though you had to social distance. Laughter is so good for the soul isn't it?!! Glad you had a great time! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteHi Maxine, a stunning card, I don't think I have ever tried colouring an image all black (not mentioning your National football team ;-)) to make a silhouette, the sunflower looks great.
ReplyDeleteLucky you being able to get together with a few crafty friends, NSW has not had a big increase in cases of Covid this week, Victoria has had 33 cases in the last 24hrs. We have wondered whether the Covid testing has been picking up other problems as we have Parrot fever in our area and have been told not to feed the wild birds (the poor things have come closer to people due to the fires earlier in the year) Have a lovely weekend... Megan
Love the card. I really must get back to card making again and colorizing images. It is so relaxing.

OMG! I am in utter disbelief! You linked to my video, oh Maxine you are so sweet and kind! I was wondering, how all of a sudden I had views on that video, usually people watch just for two days and then the video dies, a slow death.. LOL! And you know when I saw your card I thought that's a lovely solid stamp (until I read you colored in). I am counting my blessings and am so grateful to you for the support you always show me. You are a motherly figure for me, the mothers, who do so much for their kids and kids don't even stop at mom's blogs to see their beautiful work! I am ashamed to be that kid :( Hope I get better :)
