Gold, Grey and a Die Cut

When I saw this scripture, I knew I wanted to use it to make a card for a specific person.  

I started with the piece of dark grey cardstock, which was the remnant of a sheet that had been cut, but I decided to challenge myself to make a differently sized card than my usual A6

The die I used is one of a (old) set by Memory Box - it was supposed to be used to cut an aperture in the base card, and have a coloured layer under it - I remembered that too late, so used it this way, trimming the shaped side with scissors.  I also chose to randomly re-insert some of the cut outs,

and the scattered some of the remaining cut outs across the scripture panel, which I had layered, offset, over a gold oval - it looks good, but oh the agony of picking up and gluing all those wee pieces :)

The inside was finished with a simple strip of gold tape.

A Flower for a Friend

I really enjoyed making the card for a special friend..

I started with a panel over which I had applied glue and let it dry, then I sponged on distress inks,

(I think I used Spun Sugar, Tattered Rose and Milled Lavender). The glue acted as a resist and gave a wonderful subtle texture to the inked panel.

When I went to stamp the Crafty Individuals stamp  'Flower'  over it in espresso ink, I was very pleased to have a MISTI, as the ink did not really want to stamp over the background, so I had to make multiple impressions. The sentiment stamp was on a wood block, so I removed the wood mount and also used that in the MISTI... 

To embellish the feature panel I added punch waste and lace down the left side, and the punch waste and flower in the bottom right.

The panel was them mounted on the cream base, laying two deep purple snippets under opposing corners. 

The liner had a snippet of the feature panel added to the bottom of it.

Flip Flops, Thongs or Jandels??

Welcome.

I chose the title as the footwear featured on the card are known as Flip Flops in the USA, Thongs in Australia and Jandels here in New Zealand - so you can take you pick 😉 

I made this card for a young man who lives quite casually, and who loves the beach and sea.

The technique used, that of a 'floating' element,  I learnt from Natasha Foote, here.

I used kraft cardstock for the base, and then a layer of red/brown corrugated card.

The greeting was embossed in gold on the kraft card, and mounted it over a layer of gold paper.

The floating element was made using strips of gold paper, and two lots of coloured card that were scraps/snippets left over from hand made backgrounds.

In my mind they represent the sun, sky and sand.

The 'jandels' were cut out of the element, and also out of dark brown card, and the brown ones re-inserted.  The whole floating element was mounted slightly to the side of the main panel and trimmed.

The inside was finished with some glitter tape. 

Sorry about the poor focus, blame the sparkle off the glitter.

Blast Off!!

I background for this card came about when I was playing with melted wax crayons - it looked like a night sky to me, so I splattered it with some white acrylic paint, and some silver paint.

I added the wee boy's age with a silver die cut

The rocket was a freebie image, compliments of Mr G**gle, and coloured using watercolour pencils. After colouring I trimmed it out and glued it to the background.

This panel was then mounted over silver paper, then onto the dark blue card base.

I decorated the inside with a strip I had trimmed from the background, and stamped the sentiment there in blue ink, and coloured it with a silver pen

Scripture, Stitches and a Cat

Today marks the start of the new challenge over at Word Art Wednesday

I own just one of their stamp sets, Feline Good  which I incorporated into this card

The scripture is available free over at the challenge site, and is crafted for us by Karen Murray.

What cat would think/worry about tomorrow when they are a chubby as this fellow?

I not only used the stamped and die cut image on the card,

but I also stamped and clear embossed the image randomly over the card base to form a complementary background.

Some faux stitching finished the card both inside and out.

This card was made in record time, and although there were several large 'oops' moments, I had to just keep going and do some 'cover ups'.  Partially because of the time constraints, and partially because I could not reprint the scripture panel at all, as my printer is currently out of ink! 

 

The worst was when punching the corners of the panel - that just served to remind me why my corner punches languish unused!  Hence the positioning of the cat!!

Fluttering Bye

...and a very warm welcome to Verna of VA's Creative Clutter 

and Christine Kiehl.  If you have a blog, Christine, I would love to follow you.

I mentioned in my last post that was away due to the illness of a family member - unfortunately they passed away, and there has been a funeral to attend, and all the associated travelling.  

I made this card some time ago, and cannot remember which inks I used, sorry

My editing program is being a pain at the moment and it has had cut off the bottom of the card 😞

The mask I used is from STAMPlorations (it is linked directly)

I used some foil paper under the opposing corners of the butterfly panel to add interest

The sentiment (a magazine freebie) was white embossed on a snippet of  card sponged with the dark ink, and mounted over some more of the foil paper

I added three different colours of bling, white pearls, and clear and champagne rhinestones

I added a trimming of the focal panel to the inside.
