Welcome.
I am so glad you have visited my wee corner of blogland.
I had a call to make some sympathy cards this week. Why is it that the need for sympathy cards always comes in waves? Then there is always the decision, do I make a feminine card for a widow, or a vaguely masculine one to acknowledge the loss of her husband? And also, what does one make for a mother who had lost a son?
This is the first one I made.
The paper is from a new pad I got - the brand is 'Rosies'... not the top of the line, but definitely useful! That was layered over a matte mid-blue layer and then onto a pale grey/lilac base.
The ribbon tied all the colour together in the paper, and I managed to make the double bow look good - recently every time I have gone to make a bow it has turned to custard!!
I embossed the sentiment in gold and cut it using a floral ovals die, and sponged it with violet ink before removing the die. It was mounted using foam dots to give some dimension.
I left the tails of the bow long so they would pop out from under the sentiment panel, and added the wee rhinestone flourish, which neatly mimics the flourish on the edge of the paper.

I don't know how you get your embossing so perfect, Maxine. Mine always seems to smudge, but you did an amazing job. Thanks for sharing this beautiful card in our challenge, and may God bless you this week.

I think a sympathy card needs to stay simple. The recipient just wants to know you are thinking of them. But they are very difficult to make. This is very pretty, and suitable for either gender. It is a genuine sentiment, pretty but not too fussy die cut and lovely ribbon. It is a sad fact that as we get older we need more and more of these cards, at least here in this 'retired ex-pats' community we do. Kate x

ReplyDeleteYou are so right with how to wrap your head around the perfect Sympathy card- I too like simple but with a meaningful Script or Scripture if I have one (that I can find....). Your card is lovely! The color is soft and love the bow and touch of bling!

I thought that it was only me that had difficulty with sympathy cards. However, when looking at yours, it doesn't look as if you struggled at all. It's gorgeous. The bow in that beautiful ribbon is perfect! Your choice of DP is also perfect. And I love that floral oval die, it's soooo pretty!

Hi Maxine,
ReplyDeleteIt's always such a shame such cards are needed. This is beautiful, though I'm sure the recipient appreciates the sentiment as much as the appearance. It's gorgeous. Thanks for joining us at Divas By Design this week.
