Welcome
Last month in my small NZ swap group the challenge was to use what would be considered 'waste packaging' to form our backgrounds.
Twice I thought I had decided what to use, and twice I saw others had done it, as I was very late getting my card made... so I was innovative and chose to use the inside layer of some corrugated cardboard, as that was all I had - the first few minutes were spent taking the flat, outside layer off...
The Natasha Foote video we were given to inspire us is here
I first brayered the blue acrylic paint on my Gelli Plate and took a print off it using corrugated card, and then repeated using gold paint - I challenged myself and put the different colours on at different angles, and did not fill the whole background...
The tree was cut from a die that was a magazine freebie - the paper I used was almost iridescent, you can see the colour change in the right, bottom corner of the tree - I have had this paper since I first started paper crafting twenty something years ago...
The greeting was embossed in a sparkly gold ep, then I laid the stamp over the embossed layer, drew and cut around to to make a faux 'shadow' layer.
A simple finish on the inside with floral washi tape in a matching colour

Hi Maxine, a fun and colourful way to create another background, love the corrugated card to make the background, thank you for the link to the video.. Have a wonderful week... Megan
ReplyDeleteOh wow Maxine what a creative and clever background for a fun card. Great job.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card and background-love the colours here and design x
ReplyDeleteGreat Gelli plate background Maxine and that's a lovely die cut tree, so delicate in the filigree design, although as it's die cut sadly not eligible at SS where the focal element must be stamped.

I love this! I've used corrugated cardboard in a similar fashion before and it's a fun technique that has great results. Your card is a perfect example of that, Maxine!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great challenge and you certainly found a creative way to make your background. This made for a stunning card. Thank you for joining the Cut it Up Anything Goes Challenge.

What a great way to use corrugated cardboard Maxine! I love the idea of picking up ink off your geli plate and then stamping it on the card. Love how did the two colors and love that you made your stripes go in different directions. Looks really cool. I love your tree, that is fabulous paper you had in your stash and it works well with your tree die. The gold embossed sentiment goes so well with the iridescent tree paper. A creative and beautiful card! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteHow clever! Plus being clever, it looks really, really good!
ReplyDeleteI really like this technique you made such a unique card again clever! I think I will try this myself! Smiles, Kathy
ReplyDeleteYou say your inside is finished simply with floral washi tape - I think that is something that I admire about most of your cards. You do that such a lot and it is always something that I think of as 'the finishing touch that adds so much' to your cards. I love that idea.
ReplyDeleteA great idea for the front of the card to use the corrugated, how much patience you had to tear away the covering paper, and how lovely is that tree. The addition of the change in colour only adds to it.
Blessings, Neet xx
