Poppies, Pearls and Ribbon

It is good to be back - I have been having a few 'issues' which delayed my return - not the least is that my computer does not like 'reading' my external hard drive where I store my photos!

I was inspired  by this card here by Darlene McCallum, and decided to 'case' it (Change And Share Everything), the rules when 'casing' a card are that you must change at least two things.

The main change was that I used two not three layers, and my main colour is red not turquoise.

I also used a different poppy stamp

and over painted the watercolours with Iridescent Red and Green Twinkling H2O's.

The sentiment differs and is stamped directly onto the embossed panel.  I also added some ribbon and pearls

Loved how this turned out!!

A Spurgeon Quote

Welcome again.

I mentioned in my last post that I had recently been part of a card class - one of the techniques I taught was that of masking, and this was the card I taught.

I used the (retired) Layers of Color set Dotted Dahlia 

(This has now been re-released by Penny Black)

The images were coloured with chalks, which was also a new medium to the participants. 

Unfortunately the quote is not on the new set, but the flowers and leaves are all there.

I also taught them that a wee smudge is not the end of a card, by using these wee butterflies as 'cover-ups'.  I believe that 'rescue' techniques are as important as the basic techniques.  A few pearls finished the card.

Quirky Anniversary

Welcome.

 I am so glad to 'see' (via the stats)  you have visited.

Winter has well and truly arrived here in the Antipodes, and I have been busy in the studio.  I also had a card class to run this week.

I am going to share a rather quirky card I made for our anniversary recently.

I made the moon by cutting a circle with a die, and then moved the die and re-cut it.  The hearts are 'confetti' that I have had for years, as are the letter set of stamps which have not seen ink before now.

The letters were deliberately stamped randomly and then embossed.  I also stamped them loosely on the inside.

I had to give the card before I was able to photograph it, hence the yellow post-it note across where I had written.

The salutation is from a retired Layers of Color set, and IRL is bright red - for whatever reason the computer changed the colour when I cropped the image.

To finish the inside panel I die cut three hearts and added the same confetti to the centre of them that I had used on the outside.

Grandma Lovin'

Welcome.

 I have been missing as I have been with family -

DD needed an extra pair of hands for a few days, so Grandma came to the rescue..... and so enjoyed the cuddles with young Asher, 13 months old

and in his All Blacks outfit (All Blacks being the New Zealand rugby team).

I also got some time with his big sister, Lydia (3 years old) reading....

Somehow I have also discovered I have grown a few more 'second generation blond' hairs... don't know when that happened, but these photos display them all too well....

Precious Poppies

Welcome, and thanks again for visiting.

I received some happy mail from Sweet n Sassy stamps earlier this week, and just had to play - this is the outcome.

I used the large image from the Perfect Poppies set, white embossed it on red card, then painted it with Iridescent Red  Twinkling H2O paint.

which can just been seen in the above photograph.

I used a twist on the sketch I had seen, and added the lace on the right side of the card after changing the lace from white to off white by sponging it with Tea Stain distress ink.  I also embossed the cream layer with a script  folder.

The sentiment was stamped with Barn Door distress ink before I embossed the panel, and I deliberately left it clear of the embossing folder.

Deep red pearls were added for interest, and the poppy image stamped inside the card as a finishing detail.

Wallpaper!!

Welcome - thanks for visiting again.

My lovely friend Linda sent me a R.A.K. some time ago, and in it was some wallpaper that was part of a sample, and I have used part of it for this card.

The texture in the pattern of the wallpaper was so lovely I did not really want to hide it, so designed the card to maximise it. I started by sponging the edges of the paper with pink ink.

The images are from a retired Layers of Color set  by Nina Bracket, Dotted Dahlias.  I coloured them with chalks and after sealing them,  sprayed them with platinum coloured shimmer paint, some of which you can see in the above photograph.  I cut the image with an oval die, and sponged just inside the edge with blue ink before I removed the die.

 

The ribbon was folded in half to get the depth of colour I wanted, and then tied in a simple knot with a wee strip passed through that.  Quite an effective look, but it lies really flat for posting.  The blue base of the card was also sponged with blue ink before assembling the whole.

The final touch was a rhinestone flourish and some others on the opposite corners.

Inspired by Lynn

Yes - I'm back - I know, it's a bit of a shock.. 

I have been creating - just not getting to blog. 

There has also been a bit of gardening etc. done too, in preparation for the forthcoming southern hemisphere winter.

I was inspired by Lynn's card here, but I did adapt it to make it 'mine'.

I used the bright colours as this is for a tween-ager - I kept it simple, and although it looked o.k., it really came to life only when I added the Stickles.

I then added some dimensional Kindy Glitz to either side of the sentiment.

A CAS card that I am happy with - thanks for the inspiration Lynn!
