Fall Birthday

Welcome - this will be a brief post, but at least I am here for a moment or two.  I have given the computer lots of rest, so hopefully it will keep going for a tad longer.....

This is a totally digital card - the sentiment and the background paper are from Paulette at Create with TLC, and the image is from Designed 2 Delight, and all are freebies.

I painted the image with watercolour crayons - I had great fun doing that :-).

To add a wee bit of interest, I then painted a layer of iridescent medium over the sky, which the camera has just picked up.

I mounted the image on a dark green layer, mounted it over the harvest paper, added the ribbon and adhered that to the larger green layer.

The sentiment was layered onto orange and then onto the bottom of the green layer, and it was all assembled onto the orange base.

The final touch were the clear rhinestones.

Oh No - Not Again....

If you do not see me much in the next few weeks, it is because my computer is ill, so ill I think it may be terminal. I am writting this on my dear husband's tablet, but I do not know if I can keep this going with using a tablet.... I may try, but I do not know if it will be sucessful as I am not particularly conversant with it.

Guest Designer Spot

Thank you for calling by - I trust you feel welcome here.

I recently answered a call by Cora at Digital Two for Tuesday for Guest Designers.  This time we were not only to work with two of her beautiful vintage images, but we also had to showcase a technique.  I chose to use dry embossing as my technique.

The images I had to work with are available from Digital Two for Tuesday today.

For my first image I chose to emboss the layered background panels.  

To further enhance the embossing I inked the embossed pattern using the direct to paper technique, sponged the edges of the panel with the same ink, and then painted the panel with iridescent medium. 

The gorgeous image was coloured using chalks, and the wings and lace on the fairy's frock had clear Kindy Glitz added for sparkle.

The final touches were the bow of seam binding, which had been hand coloured with the same ink I used on the embossing, and the micro beads at the base of the card - adhered using double sided sticky tape.

On the second card I used the embossing on the base card

I deliberately used the angular argyle pattern to contrast with the circular lines of the doily and cut out of the image.

Again  the image was coloured with chalks - I find these give a lovely soft look to these vintage images. 

 The oval was cut using  a spellbinders classic oval, and mounted on a matching scalloped oval, which was then adhered in an offset manner to the doily.  (A technique I first saw on Jessica Fick's blog - thank you Jessica for this inspiration)

To add detail to  the card I inked the edge of the doily before mounting it, and added a ribbon and triple bow across the top.

Silver Engagement

Welcome again - and thank you for visiting.

I had fun in the studio yesterday and made a card that is a CASE of this card that I found on Pinterest.

I was asked to make an engagement card, and this concept had been running around my head for a day or so.

I scored the base of the card  making sure it was irregular, and to emphasize the scoring I sponged it with Platinum Planet ink - you can just see the sheen in the photo.

I decided to use not only the small hearts, but also the large one, (these are some of my first stamps that I bought, from the local firm Kiwistamping) - I was thinking to illustrate two hearts, intertwined, beating as one.

The sentiment was cut using a spellbinders ribbon tag, embossed, and then a silver pen run around the edge before I removed the die.  The ribbon was a silver edged one which really finished the card beautifully.

Elegant Butterfly

Welcome - I am so glad you have called in.

I had some time in the studio yesterday, and was happily puddling away when I realised I needed a card to post today!!  The result is this card, made in about 30 minutes.

I had previously coloured this image, so that was my starting point. It was slightly too large to cut using an oval die, so I lightly drew around the outside of the die and hand cut the oval, then sponged the edges.

Initially I thought about using a floral paper, as the recipient loves gardening, but when I came across this spotted paper I was more than happy to use it.

I then decided to change direction, and cut an oval out of the front of the card  after layering the dp on it, and mounted the butterfly on the inside. 

The dp was sponged on all edges, including the internal edge of the oval.

To finish the card I added a bow, stamped the sentiment and livened it all up with some clear rhinestones.

Novelty Scarf

Welcome. 

Thanks for visiting, today I am sharing a slightly different craft.

I found some novelty yarn the other week and decided knit a scarf.

Not that difficult one would think, but I was deceived!!

The yarn was a variegated mesh, edged with silver.  And knitting it was a whole new ball game for this experienced knitter!!  I persevered and on the third attempt I finally 'made it'!!

This gives a better idea of how it drapes - and it is quite attractive. 

 I had decided that this was the one and only one I was going to knit, but then my daughter said she would like one...........

I went to find the wrapper to give the name of the yarn and I cannot find it - I think it was Filatura Di Crosa Moda Lame.

Birthday Jars

Welcome - I am so glad to be back.  

My wonderful SIL has given my computer some open heart surgery, a boost of vitamins, and things are going much better... the other news is that the treatment is a temporary 'fix' and now I am saving... hard!

I love this  'New Mexico' image from McMahon Five Design.com, and enjoyed using it again on this card after colouring it with pencil

I matched it with some embossed paper I had inked using the direct to paper technique, and some dp from my stash.

I also raided my button stash.

The sentiment was stamped, embossed and mounted on a green layer which matches the green behind the main image.

The card was finished with some hand died seam binding, part of a RAK from Lovely Linda gathered onto the base and a bow added.
