Poppies - Pt2

Here is the other 'poppy' card I made recently, I can share it now as I know it has reached it's destination. 

  I used a couple of new to me techniques in the stencilled area.  Partial masking under a stencil, as per the Group Of Seven, and double stenciling. which I have seen happening on several blogs, and simply gave it a go....

After partially masking the card base with some paper I had die cut using a curved die. I then used Memento Pear Tart ink through a Newton's Nook polka dot stencil,  then replaced the stencil with a very old Layers of Color leaf swirl stencil and inked with Bamboo Shoots ink.

The poppy I had coloured with Polychromo pencils when I first bought the stamps, then die cut it. It was a bit off centre,😟so the cut image got slid back into the packet and left... 

To redeem it, I layered cut  two layers of green cardstock and layered it slightly off centre - the way it sits on the card, the (too) close cut edge is over the white, and not noticable, but the image pops against the busy background!!

The sentiment, a magazine freebie, was stamped in C.P Grass Skirt ink and clear embossed. The feature panel was then layered over a red base, and some red sequins added.

I stamped the poppy image on the insert, using markers to colour the stamp, then 'huffing' on it before stamping to re-moisten the inks.

The envelope was stamped in the same manner.

In our wee NZ swap group this month the challenge was to use a sketch that was provided, and feature an animal in the centre panel - I missed the instruction to NOT use 'usual' colours... 

I enjoyed colouring up this Art Impressions image from their Udderly Fantastic stamp set.

I used water colour pencils to colour the image and background, and added glossy accents to her hooves and mug - which reads " I'm Bossy"

The sentiment so fitted the card - it was clear embossed over Versaclair Pinecone ink.

The ribbon and bow are  Poppy Stamp dies - the bow is available in NZ, here.

The background panel was a piece of card I had mopped up ink from my glass work surface with.

I stamped the image off the edge  on the inside of the card,

and on the envelope, which I coloured lightly with polychrome pencils.

Firstly I would like to say thank you to Di for letting me know that Kathy A has a blog here, and her work is beautiful - thank you Di, and do pop over and visit Kathy's blog.

This card was made for a 12 year old boy... not sure of his interests, but he has had a rural upbringing

The image was one in a set I bought, knowing it was an el cheapo import, but not realising it was a rip-off from Beccy's Place :(   I was mortified, and I have not used it before now - some 18 months later..

I stamped the image onto kraft card, and what colouring I added was done with my polychromo pencils.

The Kraft card that I used was part of some unneeded manila folders that I cut down for card bases!

I fussy cut the image, and popped it through the  MFT rectangle peek a boo die ,

Then backed the whole panel with some cranberry cardstock.

The background piece of card was a 'mop up' sheet, and the ink I used before spraying my glass work surface, and then smooshing the card, is from an old pad of Espresso Ink

The sentiment is an old magazine freebie that I love using on masculine cards - stamped in Versaclair Pinecone ink and clear embossed

Poppies Pt 1

I cannot find if she has a blog to be able to link up here :(

I have finally been able to settle down and do some card making these last few weeks, and on two of the cards I used the same Hero Arts Hero Florals Poppy   stamp set - I also have the matching dies

I started this card with a panel of inky goodness - if I remember rightly I did a couple of monoprints off stencils I had used on another card - come to think of it, it was background for the other poppy card!!

I cut a window using anrectangle  Peek a boo die from MFT, then backing it with a snippet of pale blue card that I only attached on three sides, leaving the bottom free.

The poppies were stamped on more snippets and white embossed, before being coloured with water colour paints.  I then die cut them, arranged them in the aperture and secured them on the reverse of the card with some sticky tape.  I then popped some glue under the leaves, and foam bots for some dimension under the flower and bud, which left me some room to attach the clouds.  They were a bit of an afterthought as the blue looked too stark - again white snippets were used.

The greeting (another Hero Arts set)  was stamped in Versa Clear Pinecone ink and clear embossed on a tiny left over piece from the background, and the I edged it with a wee scrap of white I had painted in the same red as the poppies.

When I first started assembling the card it looked very plain, so I added a very sparkly gold ribbon to the left of the focal panel against the cranberry base,  and some red rhinestones

I stamped the poppy on the left of the insert - yes, it's crooked, and I did re-do the whole insert..

The poppy also featured in the envelope, stamped in memento London Fog ink

My apologies for not being present in 'blogland' for the better part of a week - life has been moving faster than I have, and I kept running out of time... 

This was made earlier in the year for an older family member - I was invited to the luncheon to celebrate, but the folk I was going to travel with were unable to go due to a viral infection one of them contracted 48 hours before - it was not covid, but it was a mighty inconvenience!

If you are thinking you have seen this before, I did another similar card in red and white.

This time I stamped, coloured and diecut the roses to form the circle

The centre piece was a silver die cut doily layered over an orange die cut.  The centre of the silver diecut was removed, and a lemon layer, the same as the base inserted before the layered, diecut digits were added, all slightly offset to have the colour peeping through.

The final detailing before I assembled it all was the lace and silver ribbon placed diagonally across the front.

The sentiment was silver embossed on a hand cut fishtail banner.. the main panel was layered over silver before being mounted on the white base

The inside was finished with lace and silver ribbon, as was the envelope.

As I was not able to attend the function, I popped my gift and the card into a courier post beg to send off to the recipient.

Thank you for visiting again.

Today I am sharing a card with a 'different' background, made with distress oxides, water and sparkly gold embossing powder!!  I was inspired by this video by Lou Collins.  

Mine didn't turn out anything like hers, but I am still happy enough with the results, although the glitter in the embossing powder went EVERYWHERE, and I ended up using some spray sealant in the end, or it would have eventually all come off... 

Unfortunately my inks 'beaded' and would not roll smoothly with the brayer

The embossed image is an older stamp from Simon Says, and the vertical sentiment is from a NZ stamp company.  This shows off some more of the glitter.

Although the card base I used looks almost red, it was in fact a deep pink that complimented the inks beautifully.

A scrap that I trimmed off the background panel adorns the insert.
