Sympathy with a Rose

DH is home, but there are massive dietary changes now that we are both trying to get our heads around.  Thank you all for your support and best wishes and prayers - for those wishing a speedy recovery - I'm sorry to say there will be no permanent recovery, and all treatments are palliative only.

This card was inspired by need, and the sketch over at Simply Less is More this week.

I started with the rose, (a stamp which came with a magazine and I have used repeatedly - I love it!) stamped and silver embossed. I then watercoloured it using the wet on wet technique. When that was dry I layered WoS over it for some sparkle, and that moved the colour a wee bit more. You can just see the sparkle in this photo.

I mounted it over a small silver circle using fun foam, and then over the larger stitched blue circle.

This was then placed over an organza ribbon layered with a fine silver cord, and then the sentiment was embossed in silver.  The top layer was lightly embossed with the Stitched oblongs die and mounted over the base with another layer of fun foam.

The card is a recycled card from a local printer and is a lovely soft, flecked gray.

I recently tried a new to me technique that I first saw over at Karen's Kreative Kards, that she called Metallic tissue background.

I am doing this as recently, when my DH was hospitalised overnight in a city away from home, Carol of CarolG...Creates  opened her home to me. We had a wonderful time together, including making a box card (Can't show it yet). I was telling her about this technique, so decided to share this card for her to see.

Please excuse me for not commenting much recently - DH, and his health, is the most important focus of my attention at the moment. I will visit when I can.

I used what I had on hand for my attempt, which was Lindy's (Mica) Powders, rather than Brusho's. As a strong colour is needed I was very generous with the powders on the saturated tissue, and even rubbed them in with my finger in parts.  Then left it all overnight to dry. This is the result.

Almost too shiny to continue, (I almost wanted to use it as it was!!) but I turned it over and was thrilled with the strong colours on the back of the dry tissue.

So, as per instructions, I rolled it up into a small ball to crease it, and some of the mica transferred to the back, and this is the result.

I then lightly swiped a Versamark pad across it, sprinkled over silver embossing powder and heated it - here is the result.

I wrapped it around a plain white card to use on the pink base, (another piece I wrapped around deep pink, and it made the pink really glow).

I added the silver butterfly die cut and gave it a pink rhinestone 'body',

And the sentiment on a tag, threaded on a silver lame ribbon

A little bit of doodling with a pink shimmer pen and a strip of washi tape in the centre of the card completed the project.

Gold Trellis and a Tag

Today I am sharing a card on which I used a new technique - die cutting the top of a tag.

I used a S/B Labels 11 Die, placing the strip of pink behind the die to cut the top, and leaving the rest of the card on top of the die,  I punched two small holes and cut between them to make a slot wide enough for the lace topper.

The white layer was a scrap I had already stamped with a favourite stamp, now discontinued, and coloured with chalks.

 I simply added the verse and mounted it onto the pink.

The card was a layer of dp, over a strong pink base with a corner of a gold Lacy Trellis (Couture Creations) Die cut 

I added the couple of other die cuts that I had in  my' promise box'  to form a layered flower in the corner,

The sentiment was gold embossed on a scrap and cut into a banner shape,  then layered over a pink banner.  I was very pleased with the outcome of this card.

Stripes, Circles and a Frog

I was stuck for inspiration the other day, so reverted to a basic layout that I used for a card earlier in the year (here), and altered it a bit

The card is for a young boy, so eventually went with this very old frog stamp (one of my originals), and some brightly coloured paper ( by Amy Tangerine)

I stamped and embossed the greeting in green on the yellow card

Mr Frog was also embossed in green, and I painted him, and the background, with Twinkling H2O's, then cut him out with my stitched circle dies, and mounted them in an offset manner to add interest.

I am trying to decorate the insides of my card this year - and I am mostly doing so, but then forgetting to photograph them!!

Hearts Galore

Just a quick post as I can't pass by Valentines without sharing this card - made today, less than 24 hours before "the day" - and not only is this for DH, but also to teach at my class tomorrow.

This could be used for an anniversary design, not just Valentines.

I started with a Z-fold card base, and partially die cut the heart using the s/b Die D Lites Swirled Heart - I can't link as the site is down, then cut the insert and outline together in gold, and glued it over the base card cut.

I then sized a piece of hand made paper I had in my stash to cover a standard base, partially die cut the heart out of the paper, and then halved it. Adhered the cut half to the front panel, nestling it around the gold heart.

The second half was adhered to the part of the back panel that showed, and added the white layer for a personal note - currently held with the matching paper clip so I can remove it for the class time tomorrow.

The background was then decorated with assorted red and gold metal heart confetti.

Something Fishy - but not smelly

No, I have not fallen off the face of the earth - I have not been able to comment the past few days as "real life" has been somewhat hectic.. hopefully it will be quieter soon and I will be able to visit - I miss you all.

This was made for a keen fisherman - the image stamp is from Kiwi Stamping, (The folk who introduced me to this addiction hobby.) He was coloured with Prismacolor pencils

 

The background is watercolour paper with Lindy's powders sprinkled over wet paper, and also sprayed a silver shimmer mist, and the die cut layer was cut from some silver sparkle card.

The fish was painted with Iridescent Blue H2O's.

The watercolour paper was a tad small for the card base, so I doodled around it with a silver pen.  The sentiment was embossed on a hand cut banner.

A Shaky Smile

I warm welcome to my newest follower Brenda S - sorry, but I cannot find a blog to direct you to, to be able to share her talents. 😕or is that just my lack of computer skills?

I made this some time ago, and now it has been received I can share it.

I started with a piece of red scrap that had been sprayed with silver spray, and decided to make a shaker card - for a 19 yr old male!!  

To keep it looking masculine I die cut the smile from a memory box set, layered some acetate behind it, then glued layers of card around the edge to form the recess to put the sequins and glitter into, before adding the green card to enclose the lot.

I added brads to the corners, printed and embossed the sentiment on some vellum and also used brads to adhere it to the zig zag design paper.

Placed it all onto  a green base card and voila, a masculine shaker card!!

Purple Flowers

I recently had a spend with a local craft importing firm, and bought some gorgeous textural Stamps by Ryn - the leaves on this card are from that set.

Another purchase was the layering set by Altnew - Bold Blossoms, and the Shades of Purple ink set.

I used three of the purple inks and black on the last, outline layer stamp.

The leaves were stamped in a bottle ink, and wee (nail) gems in purple were added for the flowers on the vine.  I have had the nail gems for years, and this is the first time I have used them.

The sentiment was inked with versamark ink, then the darkest purple ink, stamped and clear embossed.

The big die cut is from the ODBD Lavish Layers set of dies - the first time I have used this the largest one. I also stamped some of the leaves around the edge of the card base in Memento Bamboo Leaves ink to add some extra interest.

Going Around in Circles!!

I made this card specifically for Darnell's NBUS Challenge #10

(It is also her 5 year blogaversary, so she has been really celebrating this time around!)

Although the challenge is basically anything goes, there is an optional theme this time of using bubble wrap.  I used it with Espresso dye ink to make the background.

I simply added a gold embossed sentiment - no that is not my NBUS item...

I also used this stamp from a set I have had for years - it may be a NBUS item (I can't recall ever using it), but in reality, 

my NBUS item is my stitched circle die!!

A Nautical Adventure

 Welcome

This card is made entirely of NBUS items that were part of a RAK from Alicia at Time To Create - Thank you Alicia, I was blown away with your generosity.

The gift basically contained a lot of the elements of the release from Kaisercraft called High Tide

  

I used some of the paper from the pad and embossed it with the netting folder - it was so deep that it broke the surface of the paper - saving me the need to sand it as I had planned.

The edge of the paper was sponged with pearlescent white ink, which gave it the look of sea spray.

I used part of the collectable elements for both the word, the rope and the compass

And the sentiment was from the pop-outs at the back of the paper pad.

I finished the inside of the card with a cut off from the background paper.
