Shades of Blue

Welcome

I had some studio time the other day, and started with inspiration gained from the Simply Less is More Challenge to use three colours or three shades of one colour, and a video tutorial I saw the other day, where using an acrylic block as a stamp was demonstrated.

The colours I chose were three distress inks, Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Faded Denim.

I started with the lightest ink and stamped a few paint splats in the lightest shade of ink.

I then stamped the blocks of colour using the side of the acrylic block and all three shades of ink.

The sentiment is an old one that I stamped in black ink.

A final look at the completed card.

Way back when...............

Welcome

Way back when, when we were very young (it now seems), we were wed  -

and today we marked the 40th anniversary of that event - although the 'official' celebrations were held the other day.

And yesterday I made a card to give to my Sweetheart.

I started with the die cut heart and stamped and embossed the image.

The gold gelato was added with my finger while the panel was still in the die. The background panel was also coloured with gelatos, gold, and then lemon - the sparkle of the gold shows through both colours.

I used one of my oldest stamps, so old the label has worn off it - I added the 40 with an embossing ink pen before I added the ep.

I added the ribbon to both the front panel and the side of the longer back to the card - on this panel I added four gold heart brads to signify the four decades we have been married.
I added the sentiment using black ink as DH has severe macular degeneration and red on white is not a strong enough contrast for him to be able to read it easily.

Just Truckin' Along

Welcome

This card was a lesson in how to mess up and cover up!

I started with the truck images running along the 'road', and that did not go as smoothly as I had hoped, but the end result was acceptable, on the second try!

Then I had the bright idea to have the sentiment on a banner flying from the tow truck - I had to fussy cut it, and then I decided to sponge the edges to add definition - oops, smudge!  Ah well, the young recipient will have to think it is shadow.

I left one end wider than the rest of the banner and folded it back to hide the thread, then used a needle to take the thread to the back of the layer at the hook of the tow truck.  The banner was mounted with foam dots to add dimension.

The 'road' was made from a panel of sponged, sprayed, embossed and sponged again card that I had on my desk - I thought it gave the rugged impression of a construction site.

I rubbed some chalk into the card to create a pale blue sky, but then there was the pesky matter of a couple of tiny blots of black ink on the background - then inspiration struck - birds!!  I used the splats as bodies and curved a couple of wings either side - now that was a very acceptable solution!

Butterfly Birthday Card

Welcome
I have unfortunately neglected my blog for the past week as I have had family, including grand children, visiting and life has been chaotic - and still is as we have just had more visitors arrive today...

This card was made for an Aunt who recently turned 80.

I started with some design paper sent to me as part of a RAK from Grace of Th-INK-ing of You

The butterflies were stamped and embossed on bright coloured magazine paper that had been glued onto thin card.

The front of the card was finished with some twine, a cardboard button and kindy glitz, and a butterfly charm.

On the base of the card the 80 was computer generated and printed in yellow, before being covered in gold glitter, cut and a gold pen run around the inside of the die before removing it.  It was mounted on a dotted circle that had green ink sponged through it before the die was removed. The edge was cut with a MS punch, and the sentiment gold embossed.

The flower is one from my stash, brand unknown.

The final product, from two angles, finished with a few rhinestones to support the easel when it was stood up.

Parisian Whimsy

Welcome

I recently made this rather whimsical card.

It all started with the green base and the piece of yellow card that were sitting on my desk after other projects.

I stamped and embossed the Eiffel Tower in bronze.

To add to the Parisian feel I stamped the Paris stamp in brown ink, which on the yellow gave an interesting effect.

Next was a layer of paper tape which I found by a serendipitous chance I could emboss on, so the sentiment was embossed in bronze to match the tower.

A flourish of rhinestones added some whimsy.

The wee flower and Fleur de lis were stamped in Versamark ink and then had pearlised powder rubbed over them.

Some pleated ribbon, and then some picot ribbon finished the card.

Serendipitous Birthday

Welcome

These are some more of the serendipity squares that I made, and this time I used them as part of a larger block, and again I used a purple backing.

I wanted a focal point, and went for the small scripture stamp, and gold embossed the wording, cut it with a Spellbinders die, and layered it onto gold paper.  I shaped the gold paper by running a pencil around the outside of the die and fussy cut it.

It still looked very plain, so added the layered, punched flowers and the bling.

The sentiment was gold embossed on the bottom of the purple layer, and two more flowers added.

I then matted the purple panel onto green, and then cream card, sponging the cream card with Bundled Sage ink.
The differing colours are because some of the photos were taken in natural light ( the second photo) and the others under an artificial light, which gave the true colour.

Serendipitous Sympathy

Welcome

I had a good day in the studio yesterday afternoon, and this is one of the results.

I started with some squares that I had made using a technique called Serendipity Squares and mounted them on the violet base card.

The base card was embossed with a music embossing folder, and then sponged it lightly with some violet ink.

The sentiment was stamped and embossed onto green card, and added under the side of the decorative panel.

The final detail was a wee tad of gold ribbon and a bow.

This is a close up of the detail of a panel and the bow.
