Welcome
I recently bought a January copy of the U.K. magazine Craft Stamper, and in it there was an article by Riikko Kovasin, using wax crayons as a resist to watercolour.
I was teaching a stamping class today, and as we were making Salted Backgrounds, I thought I would throw in this extra technique as a challenge.
I know I found it hard the first time I tried it as I am mainly right brained, and the free-form nature of this is a bit scary.
Here is the card that I made and took as a sample.
I made the background doing random scribbles with the wax crayons, and then painted over them with water colour paint.
I took one look and did not like what I saw - so left it for an hour or so as I had a visitor, which was most timely!
When I came back, I first added three strips of Washi tape,
then scrabbled through my card scraps, and came up with the orange and gold, which matched some of the crayon colours.
I tidied the orange piece, punched the corners, then die cut two flower shapes, inked the edges of the petals, shaped them slightly and adhered them to the orange with a brad. The green in the brad matched the watercolour green.
The end result is a bright and cheerful card that I am rather pleased with.
The challenge to the class was to create a background, and then take it home and create a card to bring back next time we meet.
Thank you for visiting - any comments you may leave are deeply appreciated
May your day be blessed

It's important to try new techniques and share them. I like the card - it's different. I especially like the pairing of yellow, orange, and green. I flower definitely adds some texture. Thanks for joining TTPH this week.
Oh my goodness, Maxine... I love the artistic flair on this stunning card!
THIS is creative. He says "come to me as a little child" and this does exactly that. Brilliantly done. It would by interesting to see your classes results. I do like using crayola pencils at times. The results can be amazing.
I love how your resist background looks. So cheery. I am glad you didn't give up on it. I have had several pieces that I didn't like but let it set for awhile and worked on some more and the end result was something that I really liked.
Cool looking!!!! So bright and fun! Love that flower and all those wonderful colors too!

It is quite a fun technique isn't it, but, like you, I find the very free-form nature of it hard to get used to. Lovely citrus colours to make a bright and cheerful card. Kate x

I admire you for all the cool techniques you learn. I'm such a creature of habit and almost never try anything new. This is really an amazing card with a great color combination.
