Gizmos and a Bow...

I seem to be blogging a lot of cards with a steampunk look/theme, and this was probably one of the ones that I have enjoyed making the most.

Be warned, this is a photo heavy post, but I will refrain from a long dialogue.

The concept for this card came earlier in the year when I purchased a 3/4 Designs card kit of papers and ephemera called Gizmo Escapades .  The papers are fabulous quality, and I have since purchased other packs for future use...  

I trimmed a sheet of printed paper,  distressed the edges,  then sponged Versamark ink through  a diecut piece of acetate, acting as a 'stencil', then clear embossed it.  The next step was to sponge the sheet with Vintage Photo DI - it turned out exactly how I had envisaged it. 

I had spent some time cutting out all the printed sheets of elements in the kit, so all I had to do was to select the ones I wanted to use - I then added glossy accents to parts of them, and left them to dry.

The ribbon was some my grand daughter brought home from a birthday party, and it toned perfectly with the card, and I managed to get a tiny and tidy bow made - it doesn't happen every time ;)

The bow was glue dotted onto the largest element, and then I stamped the sentiment, die cut it and distressed it to match the card, then attached it to the bow with some string

I couldn't resist this bee - they are not my favourites, but this one...

The inside was finished with another home made stencil, and I used not only the same DI, but a couple of times I touched the brush onto some blue ink to reflect the colours in the ephemera. 

I have heard the the recipient loved it!

Steampunk and Fishy

I recently bought a new stamp set from the local shop that had been imported, and unbranded.

They have a Steampunk look to them, and I love them, and I have several men in the extended family who love to fish!

This card started with a 'mop up' piece, using Catherine Pooler Aquatini ink, then sprayed with a silver mica spray to further mimic water

I stamped and silver embossed the image, and then painted it with mica based paints.

I wanted to frame the image, and ended up cutting two hexagons using Hero Art Infinity dies from silver mirror card, and offset them around the fish.

The sentiment was sliver embossed on vellum which I cut to a double banner shape, and mounted over a thin scrap strip of the same mirror card.

I also added a rectangle of card under opposite corners of the main panel, and used a silver pen to freehand 'stitch' around the balance of the panel.

I used a Riley's Funny Bone Stamp in the centre.

CAS and Stripes

I had a masculine card to make today and remembered this die that had been given to me by a friend. 

 It was originally a magazine freebie that she did not want.  

The card started with cutting the die out of copper metallic paper.

There was some tan card sitting on my desk that I used for the base.

To 'ground' the car, I made two stripes across the bottom of the card by masking and sponging Walnut Stain DI across.   The sentiment was stamped and copper heat embossed, and I added a stripe under that, using the same technique

The card looked very stark, so I scored one line across the top of the card above the sentiment, and two across the bottom, and lightly bushed more ink onto the bottom ones.

For some fun I created some exhaust smoke... 

When I put the panel of white card inside, I added two scored stripes to that also.

More Vellum...

With this card I showed my friend how to attach vellum between layers...

I started by brushing three inks onto a piece of white card -  Forget-Me-Not by Lawn Fawn is the blue at the base, and the top colour was Orange by Memento, but as this was made some weeks ago while I was staying with her, I cannot recall the names of the other inks

We then used some 'worker ' stamps from Aall and Create and some stencils, to create the final background

The poppy from Darkroom Door was embossed in gold, as was the sentiment, from the same set as the flower, only this time onto the vellum.

The vellum was wrapped around the panel before being mounted onto the base.  The base was white card, which I coloured the edges of to match the background panel.

The final detail was the iridescent, sparkly stick-on jewels. 

I decorated the inside with a trimming from the background panel

Quieten it with Vellum

My friend and I were having fun with our cardmaking recently, and she asked how to use vellum, as she had recently bought some... So the first technique we tried was to mute, or quieten, some vivid paper

I supplied some papers from a calendar - this one has the 'feel' of the Pacific Islands, and was really rather big, bold and bright.  I started by selecting the section of the page  I wanted to use, and some red card to use as a base.

I then trimmed the vellum to size, allowing enough for a fold to be able to attach it to the back of the tent fold card base

Although it was a standard vellum, if you are careful and keep the heat gun moving, you can heat emboss on it, so I used this old stamp from Stampendous and embossed it using Mermaid Tail EP by Brutus Monro

I then finished the inside with a piece of white card and a trimming from the patterned paper, but forgot to photograph it!

A Purple Rose??

I am posting a day late for this fortnight's challenge at Word Art Wednesday, where our sponsor this time is Stamp Simply with a most generous prize of a $20 credit to their store.

The rose is from the Thinking of You Rose Bundle, which includes the matching die.

I coloured it with Polychromo pencils, and then added clear Wink of Stella.  

A few minutes later I picked up the Wink of Stella pen to add another layer of sparkle, and layered it with silver WoS, not Clear.. and that's where the deeper purple tones came from, as originally it was nearer pink!

To finish the card I layered a strip of vellum to one side when assembling the card, and then found some beautiful matching mauve sequins to add over it

The background was a shaving creme and Brusho's panel that I made when having fun with my friend, and it actually has some wee spots of mauve.

Playtime Background...

This card was made for a small swap group here in N.Z.  The theme this month was to use inks or paints on your background - I had a lot of fun making this, for a lovely friend in the group.  

It started with three colours, Peanut Brittle, Orange and Ladybug Memento inks blended over white card, then I added C.P .Limoncello over the Peanut Brittle

Then came some very old lemon mica spray, followed by Candle Light and Peppermint Stick mica sprays by TH.... I was having fun!!

Once dry, I had to stamp it to the right, not the left of the card as I had intended because of the design of the stamp – I then embossed the stamping. 

I added some background stamping with a stamp from STAMPlorations using Caramel ink (the chicken wire one) and a stamp from AALL And Create with Lawn Fawn Crunchy leaf ink, I loved the result as it looks a bit like cobwebs.

I trimmed and mounted the feature panel over the yellow, added the ribbons and then mounted onto the base... then added the sequins and called it finished.

The inside was decorated with a trimming from the main panel, as was the envelope

The recipient loved the card, and now she has received it, I can share it.
