Flip Flops, Thongs or Jandels??

Welcome.

I chose the title as the footwear featured on the card are known as Flip Flops in the USA, Thongs in Australia and Jandels here in New Zealand - so you can take you pick 😉

I made this card for a young man who lives quite casually, and who loves the beach and sea.

The technique used, that of a 'floating' element,  I learnt from Natasha Foote, here.

I used kraft cardstock for the base, and then a layer of red/brown corrugated card.
The greeting was embossed in gold on the kraft card, and mounted it over a layer of gold paper.

The floating element was made using strips of gold paper, and two lots of coloured card that were scraps/snippets left over from hand made backgrounds.
In my mind they represent the sun, sky and sand.

The 'jandels' were cut out of the element, and also out of dark brown card, and the brown ones re-inserted.  The whole floating element was mounted slightly to the side of the main panel and trimmed.

The inside was finished with some glitter tape.
Sorry about the poor focus, blame the sparkle off the glitter.

Flip flops here in the UK as well Maxine, can't cope with them personally, it's the bit between the toes that niggles me.

A great card though, thanks so much for sharing and joining in at Allsorts challenge this week.

A super card Maxine, it sounds perfect for the recipient - it's Flip Flops in the UK as well and I can't wait to get mine out for the summer when it arrives.

Ooh pretty! We call them flip flops here in AZ. I lived in flip flops when I was in a child and young adult. Now not so much. Have a nice weekend.

What a great card this is! I do love the floating element. You probably almost gave your camera a nervous breakdown trying to focus on the glitter :) Flip flops for me - Singapore childhood to blame:)

Fabulous card Maxine and the name trivia was interesting. When I was a kid, we called them thongs but when my kids or grands here me say it now, they think I'm weird because now the 'thongs' I used to wear are called flip flops.

Maxine, this card is fantastic! We used to call them thongs here in the USA but at some point it changed to flip flops. I guess it's the sound that they make.

I love your explanation "sun, sand and sky" and can see it - you are so right! Perfect choice of colours.
Well, from now on my flip flops will be jandles - I think that is a lovely word.
