I needed a card for a girl turning eight, and I am not sure of her likes and interests, so I came up with a fairly neutral, but feminine and sparkly card.
The background was a 'Mop up" piece using Dusty Concorde DI.
When I have been using ink to blend on card, as I work on a waterproof surface, I simply give the ink a light spray of water and dip the card into it until it is looking ok to me...waste not want not!
I then gave this one a light spray of Lindy's magical mica spray French Lilac Violet (New, first Use)
To add interest I randomly stamped this butterfly over it in Versamark ink, then brushed it with a pink mica powder... that I have had for years and not used... New, first use.
I punched five balloon shapes from sparkle card and wrapped variegated metallic thread around them to form ties (a very fiddly task!!) I popped the balloons up on foam dots, and then gathered the threads together with some ribbon and tied a bow - which promptly decided it was going to end up upside down, by which time I was so frustrated I left it like that!!
The sentiment was stamped with purple ink and clear embossed
The inside was finished with the strip of the purple ribbon with a simple knot tied in it.

Looks like a perfect card for a youngster Maxine and I think anyone would enjoy a card with balloons.
Maxine, this is so fun with the sparkle, the balloons, and other elements, too. The young girl is going to love it!

Very sweet! I'm sure the sparkly balloons will be a big hit with an 8 year old. Thanks so much for sharing at Word Art Wednesday this week!
Fabulous techniques to create such a beautiful background and love the sparkle you added with glitter paper, brilliant! So glad you joined us at Get Creative Challenges!
I think a little girl of eight will adore this card Maxine! I love that you don't waste your ink especially when it is on a slick surface and can be used up the way you did. This is why I love using a glass mat to work on. So I'm loving your background and adding the butterflies with Versamark and mica powder is genius! You can't go wrong with party balloons, especially glittery ones! lol I love this card myself! Hugs, Brenda
I always do the same with my inks and don't waste them, in my folders I have piles of papers made in this way, ready to be used. Your purple one looks so pretty and well done with the butterflies stamped on it. All the shine and sparkle make your card just perfect for a feminine birthday card! Love the little upside down bow :) so cute!
You know how much Hammy and I love schparkle so we are drooling over this awesome birthday card, Maxine! I want to apologize for not being by before now. For some reason I thought you were still on rest, so it was a treat to scroll back through many posts and tons of inspiration to see all that I've missed! So glad you are doing well again! Happy New Year Hugs, Darnell
Great choices, what eight year old girl doesn't like balloons, purple and butterflies...You are such a thoughtful cardmaker! Smiles, Kathy
Hi Maxine. Love how you used the left over ink for the background and stamped over with the butterfly. I think your bow looks cute like that. I do know how hard it is to work with bows. Great job. Hugs, Carol
Any little girl would love this Maxine, it is very pretty, sparkly and girly.
Maxine: As a grown girl who loves purple and pink, I love your card so I'm sure the little 8 year old girl will too!!! Such a creative mixed media birthday card, too. I enjoyed reading about all your steps and details! Thanks for sharing at Allie's Angels! --Becca/DT
I love 'mop up' backgrounds and this one looks amazing. I think you have done a good job for an 8yr old xx

I think every little girl (and quite a few big ones) love purple and its many shades. You chose wisely for this card and everything blends in so well together. Balloons too are a good choice for that age group. Another delightful card,
Blessings, Neet xx
