Pencils, a Parrot and Sequins

I don't often make shaker cards, but I had not long bought the Peek - a - boo window die and this parrot stamp (a magazine freebie) was calling out to be framed.

I stamped the parrot in London Fog ink and coloured it with Poly Chromo pencils on a snippet of white card.

The sentiment, which came in the set, was stamped in the same ink on the card front.

After colouring the parrot, I fussy cut him, figured out how to frame him using the die cut, and decided to make a shaker card!! Creating 'on the fly', as it were! 

 I put some metallic, holographic paper on the card base and filled the aperture with Whimsical Forest Mix , and a pinch of Winter Snow as well.   

I finished the card with some washi tape on the inside - I chose this tape as it was a nod at the recipients 'bucket list' wish to drive Route 66!

Purple and Brusho Encouragement

This was made for a couple going through a hard time. 

The background was made using brushos on an embossing folder - this was the third 'pull' and done in the negative, so the panel is debossed.

As the purple was the dominant colour on this time through, I chose to make the feature panel in purple card.  die cut it with a SB Floral Oval die, then embossed the ODBD scripture on it in Ranger Detail White Embossing powder.

The scripture I stamped inside was also an ODBD stamp from the same set.

I finished the outside of the card with some gold edged white ribbon from my stash, and rounded two corners.

I am sorry I have not been visiting much these past few weeks, but life has been very busy, and I may not be online much over the next few weeks as I have a family wedding and a conference to attend as well as gardens that are crying out for attention now spring has decided to arrive...

Just a quick post - I was going to post this several days ago but the hard drive  I keep my photos on had a hissy fit and refused to co operate!!  Think it's probably time I replaced it!!

I made this card for a wee boy as a 'just because' one.

The stamps and the slider dies and came compliments of a magazine some months ago

The sun and cloud are foam, they came pre-cut in a package some 8 years or more ago...

The butterflies and flowers were punched out of scraps of glitter card - nothing goes to waste!!

The flower stems and grass were hand drawn with a glitter pen.

This card is for the Word Art Wednesday challenge that starts today.

I started with a piece of background paper that was made with Ken Oliver Colourburst powders, applied through a stencil.

I printed the scripture verse and cut it with a Memory Box stitched rectangle die, elongating it as I cut.  The hearts were cut from a purple snippet (with an unidentified die,)  as that was one of the colours in the wedding of the couple I made this card for.

The cup was cut with an unidentified die out of an off-white snippet of recycled card, and the cup coloured with an old Whispers Sugar Loaf  inkpad using the direct to paper technique.  The 'steam' was liberally coated with Wink of Stella.

The sentiment (a magazine freebie) was inked with the sugar Loaf ink, and then Versamark, and clear embossed.  The ribbon was some from my stash.

The inside was finished with a strip of matching washi tape.

Birthday in Black, White and Red

I saw a black, and white card on Instagram some time ago, and thought I would CASE it. Unfortunately I cannot give credit to the original creator... and the result included some red!

I textured the background with a SB Lovely Lattice embossing folder

Die cut the doily, and decided it was too large to fit in the centre, (as it was on the original card) so moved it up and to one side and trimmed it to fit.  The sentiment (a magazine freebie) was embossed with Ranger detail white ep,

The three flowers were die cut (with a discontinued SB set) from red glitter card, and  adhered to the doily with gold brads

I added two strands of bakers twine, (black and red) tied in a bow, and also used the three centres from the flowers as an additional accent.

On the inside I simply added a piece of washi tape down one side.

Mixed Media ATCoin

I am part of a small small group of paper-crafters here in New Zealand, and we have a monthly challenge and swap combined.  Last month  we were challenged to make a ATCoin from some napkin covered card we had received from the previous month's partner, and mount that on a circular card!!.

I had received a piece with a Paua shell pattern on it. A Paua (Pa-wa) is the Maori name for an Abalone family shell fish found on our coasts. 

Unfortunately I managed to put my piece in a very safe place...and the rest is history as it is still there!  Thankfully I remembered a piece of patterned paper from the dim dark days of my paper addiction paper collection that had the required pattern on it.

I cut it to the required size, and then stamped a flourish from SU Baroque Motifs on both the coin and the background and embossed them with Paua Glint ep.

The leaf was an experiment with light paste/embossing paste in a mold.. after it had dried overnight, I painted it with Inka Gold Emerald green and purple paints, and when that was dry, added some gold from the same range of paints, which gave a great sheen to the piece.

The main dragonfly was cut using an Elizabeth Craft Small Dragonfly die (which appears to be dis-continued) with kraft card, glitter card, and vellum.  It was mounted over some silver thread

The small dragonflies were punched and coated with Wink of Stella - they are so very reflective as the pen blobbed!  The sentiments were hand written with a silver pen on black card and attached to the card base, the ATCoin mounted over more silver thread and some gauze, and then the leaf adhered over that again.

Despite the challenge being just that, challenging, I loved making this!

Annalise's Shawl

A change of craft today...  a project that has been on the go for some years - eight to be more accurate!

I had barely started a shawl for my daughter, very early in her pregnancy, when my son and his wife announced that they too were expecting a wee one... as a shawl takes me approximately nine months to knit, they understood that it would not be ready by the time baby was born.

I did start it that year, and plodded away on an off over the years, but with RSI, carpel tunnel and cubital tunnel issues, it had been a while since it had seen the light of day

This year they announced that they were expecting a baby in September... so when I was recovered from surgery in March I started off again.  And finished it only two days after Annalise was born.

I seem to work best with deadlines!!

The shawl was knitted on 2.5 mm circular needles in 2 ply wool - a lace weight.

                   The pattern was actually a tablecloth in a Burda magazine published in 1993

Although it looks complicated, it was basically one pattern repeated 47 times in the bulk of the knitting

I altered the edge pattern a wee bit, and once it was washed and blocked, it had a pretty scalloped look to the edge.

Near the end each round took me close on an hour, but the cast off took me nearly three hours. There were 1,410 stitches on the last rounds.
