Sea, Sky and a Ship

Welcome

Some time ago I made a batch of 'ink over dried glue resist' backgrounds.  On this one I stenciled some dots using a brown ink, and then it sat, until recently.

I stamped the panel using the Crafty Individuals stamp 'Of The Sea'.  The stamp is fabulously detailed, and I had difficulty getting a good impression, and then the paper moved in the MISTI so I could not re-stamp...  so I used a fine black pen to add in detail that was missing

To 'colour' the ship, I stamped the image onto plain white paper and painted it with watercolour paint before trimming it out and paper piecing it over the original image

To the sea area around the base of the ship, I added dark blue and some white pen for detail

The sentiment was a magazine freebie, which was stamped on deep blue card and white embossed, then trimmed into a banner shape before being mounted on foam dots

I added this washi tape to the inside - it reminds me of compasses.

What a cool masculine card Maxine! I love the boat/ship. It looks like a fun time on that boat. If one is a boat person. lol Your background looks amazing, loving the stenciling and details on the water. I sure couldn't tell you colored the boat and glued it over top, when I read that I kept looking but you can't tell it. Love the sentiment on the dark blue embossed in white, it really pops! That washi does remind one of compasses, perfect for the inside of this beautiful card!

I agree, outside is best when the weather is nice and I've been out there a lot so far. After being shut in for the winter, one just wants out of the house don't we?! Hugs, Brenda

Wow Maxine, this is gorgeous! I love all of the details you provided in the description. Certainly a multi-step process, both for the ship and the lovely background. Very, very beautiful end result!

Oh such beauty Maxine! I have always ben a lover of the Nautical themes things especially when I was in college when I started to be less scared of the sea (imagine an island boy being scared of the sea HAHA) Love the classy drawing and the soothing color blues!

Hi Maxine. I love this stamp. I bought it too but it hasn't been inked yet. I thought it would make a good card for one of my boys. His birthday is next month so I had better start thinking about it.
I like your background. You are very good at using up 'one I made earlier', and using them to good effect. A great card. Kate x

Great image. The images I do are often lacking detail that needs to be penned in to make it look right. You did a spectacular job of doing that. Excellent card for that sea faring person. Great coloring.

The washi tape on the inside does look like compasses, good idea.
I like this idea of glue on the background - I am presuming you put some glue on (PVA?) and let it dry so that it gives some texture and then colour it. Must give that a try when I get back home.
A lovely ship image and nicely coloured in, it just sits on the sea so well.
A card which will delight the recipient.
Blessings, Neet xx

WOW Maxine! I have never ever tried this technique. It's exciting after so many years of stamping to realize something I've never done. Thanks for the inspiration. I adore this stamp and your card is sublime. xx, Autumn
