This is one of the cards I taught at my class last week - using the technique of die cutting layers of tissue,  then water colouring  the die cuts.  Here is the video tutorial

I embossed the background with a freebie folder from a magazine.

I typed up and printed out the sentiment without really thinking too much about the accuracy of it, but later I suspected I had misquoted it, so looked up the quote and ooops, so I re-typed it and replaced the original!

I didn't post the card for a few days, and then inspiration hit and I added the bling to the coloured feather... 

In my haste to get it ready for the post, I forgot to get a full photo of the altered card front 😒

I finished the inside with washi tape and the birthday greeting.

Tropical Butterfly Garden

I made this card for a dear family member who loves her garden, but is unable to be out in it much now.  She also loves lemon and green colours...

Unfortunately the camera has played tricks on me and the lemon cardstock looks more kraft in these photos - so cross, as the card is really pretty IRL!

I'm not sure where the paper came from now, (I think it was from a Craft Wise pack) but I loved the flowers on it.  The butterflies are cut from the M/B  Pippi die

The sentiment is from Montarga (a N.Z. company), and is embossed using deep green ep.

The patterned panel, and the sentiment banner were mounted over some card that had been covered in metallic book covering plastic film. The banner shape was hand cut.

I decorated the inside of the card with a strip of the patterned paper.  This photo shows the true colour of the lemon cardstock I used as the base and the sentiment banner.

Pearls, Lace and Scripture

It's time for another challenge over at Word Art Wednesday, and the scripture I have used on this card is the one that is available free on the blog.

I printed the verse, then die cut it with a m/b stitched rectangle die, that now appears to be unavailable, and sponged some Memento Ladybird ink onto it before removing the die.  I also cut the layer of rose gold paper with the die one size up.  The rose gold paper is actually wrapping paper - I don't think I will be running out of it for some time :)

I mounted the feature panel to the left of the centre step, then added a multi-layered flower and some (Zva) pearls to the side.  Some lace completed the two side panels.

The inner panel was kept simple with just some rose gold washi added to one side.

Polka Dots and Glitter-flys

This past week has been rather busy, and I usually spent Sunday afternoon's in the studio,  

After a later than usual lunch with guests, I decided to catch up on blogging instead.

This card was made for a seven year old girl - I had no indications as to her interests etc, so this is the result - lots of glitter and sparkle, over a bold background!

The main butterfly was the negative from a die cut using sparkle card, trimmed into a square, and backed with some bronze textured paper that has been in my stash since, errr,  lets just say years.

Some rhinestones were added to accentuate the body.

Other snippets of sparkle card were used to punch the small butterflies, and they also received rhinestone bodies. 

The sentiment was stamped onto a snippet of canary yellow card and copper embossed, then trimmed before the rhinestones were added to that.

The inside was finished with a butterfly stamp, to continue the theme.

A Ducky Birthday

Just a quick post this evening.  

This card was made for a one year old, and when I was searching through my stamps and saw this old one, inspiration struck - never mind that I was on a short deadline :)

I coloured the image with prismacolor pencils, then 'winked' the flower petals, glittered the flower centre with Kidy Glitz, and used some glossy accents for the beak and feet of the wee duck

I finished the inside with some washi tape, that has some flowers on it that resemble the ducks 'hairstyle'

Ghost Fish

Why is it that so many of the men in my (extended) family enjoy fishing?  Although it gives me a ready topic for a card, it can get challenging to make each one unique. 

This card started with a play session on day with a friend who had just bought some 

Brusho SprinkleIT powders... what fun we had, and this background is one of the results

Look at the sparkle there !!

I then stamped the piece with this fish from Hastings Rubber Stamps and silver embossed it, but was not happy with the outcome... 

 I then stamped and embossed the fish again on regular card and painted it - I was not happy with the way the colour turned out, so went over it with Oyster Twinking H20, and also painted the background fish with it too, giving them a ghostly look ;😉. 

It took me ages to finally settle on the layout....

The sentiment (a magazine freebie) was silver embossed on white and cut to a banner, and the edge sponged with blue ink, as was the edge of the background panel.

The main panel was mounted over a layer of silver sparkle paper and then onto dark blue cardstock.

Outer Space and a Magic Window

I went to make a card for a young teen recently and was at a loss as to what to do, until I came across this magic window technique on The Butterfly Challenge, and this fabulous graphic style of silver embossed paper 

I had to adapt the measurements from imperial to metric, and our slightly larger card size, but I was very pleased with how it turned out!

As recommended, I used a lighter weight card for the main construction, and then layered a light weight blue cardstock over the outer panels, and then the paper, being careful to line it up in the centre.

As you open the card the mechanism reveals a window that gradually opens to show the sentiment

I stamped and silver embossed the sentiment (a very old Hero Arts stamp) onto a snippet of the blue cardstock I used on the outside

To form the focal point and 'closure' I took a die cut of a globe (from a borrowed, unidentified die) and mounted it over some more of the blue card, and then 'winked' it heavily, which really shows up marvellously under the electric light.

I was really pleased with the outcome of this card, and have made some more using this technique, so you may well be seeing more of them here in the future.
