Over the past few years... yes, years, I have been gradually using up oddments of wool in my stash to make a blanket, and I also bought a few new balls of wool along the way,
This is the finished article!!
The small centre blocks were all knitted together as I went, and the first layer of stripes were also knitted onto that block - and then RSI and cubital tunnel struck, so it came to a grinding halt.
You can see here that some thinner wools were knitted together, and that sometimes I used only small sections of one colour, just using up the 'bits'
I was given some variegated acrylic yarn, and crocheted the edges to give a colourful finish and a firm edge.
I also made up a handful of crocheted circles to tie it all together, and added them to the centre panel to brighten it up a wee bit, and to, in one instance, hide an 'oops'.
So that was my wee bit of knitting.

Beautiful blanket Maxine. With the temperatures at the moment, I'm sure it is going to get plenty of use. I like how you worked different thicknesses of wool into the blanket too.
It is lovely Maxine. There is a lot of work involved and what a great way to use up some 'bits'. I still have an 'oddments' blanket my mum knitted for one of my boys and he is in his fifties now. Yours will be an heirloom too I am sure. Kate x

Wow... a little knitting?? That's a lottttt of knitting and great idea of using the wool left over. Also, I think my generation and newer will cherish such a beautiful, colorful handmade blanket.
Its so pretty! I crochet but I always start a project then forget about it until someone mentions a project they are crocheting.

Wow, wow, wow Maxine! I thought this was a quilt at first, but then I kept reading and looking and I can't believe you knitted and crochet this gorgeous blanket! I love all the colors, you did a great job at using up those oddments of wool in your stash. I really love those "buttons" too, at least the circles look like buttons to me. This is wonderful and reminds me of the Bible story for Joseph's coat of many colors! Glad you used your bits and knitted a story within all your stitches!!! It was lovely to read your short summary of the processes!
Wow this is impressive. (I can't knit---2 needles and I would probably poke my eye out) What a wonderful colorful beautiful creation. I bet you remember what you used the original yarns for so am thinking this brings special memories with it as well. Great job Maxine.

I'm impressed my mom tried to teach me to knit but I could get that tension thing down and my scarves were huge at one...anyway you are a magnificent knitter! My mother if she were still alive would love it! I'm so attracted to anything that reminds me of my wonderful memories of her...
